The auntie there gatekeeps the place like her own gold vault. Two of us came and we share a towel because we always use the same machine at the same time, but we were told to leave because "everyone needs to have a towel". Would not budge even after explanation. Really mindless inflexible adherence to rules without understanding the reasoning behind them. Stares at you to the point of it becoming uncomfortable. Looks like a common longstanding problem based on previous reviews. Gym is really small and is ok for some cardio and light weights but lacks a lot of machines.
View on GoogleI like that the Toa Payoh West CC ActiveSG gym that I went during the year end holiday period is generally less crowded than the popular ones like in Toa Payoh and Bishan. There are two separate gym rooms but they are nearby. First room is mainly machines like treadmills and the other second room is mainly about bar weights and barbells. The first room is quite small while the second room is bigger. The equipment range is limited compared to popular ActiveSG gyms and Toa Payoh West CC ActiveSG gym is less accessible compared to them but you generally get more privacy, a more peaceful environment, and more personal space with less people. The place is clean and equipment is decent. Not many immediate amenities like eateries and it is quite in deep inside a neighbourhood public housing flat estate. Staff is quite friendly.
View on GoogleIncredibly tiny gym. Was quite disappointed and surprised that the dumbbells went up to only 10kg and we didn't see any barbell, cable, pylo boxes, etc. It was only hours after, when I came to the reviews that I saw that there is actually a free weights area with those equipments in a whole separate room. Would appreciate if there was a clear sign at the entrance to alert users about the other gym space that we could access and use!
View on GoogleRemember to bring a towel! I’ve seen a few people turned away and asked to purchase a towel from a nearby mini mart. I was one of them too until today 🤣 As some have mentioned, the gym is on the petite side 🐜 and the range of strength training machines 🏋️♂️ is somewhat limited, but that could be a real plus for those who are not a fan of larger commercial gyms. 5 x treadmills (one of the screens is a bit dodgy, not sure if it will have been fixed by the time you visit!) 4 x stationary bikes 2 x ellipticals Hope for a rowing machine too! 🚣♂️ The strength training machines are hydraulic I think. Various machines for arm, chest, legs, and glutes. Don’t think I saw any for core/abs though! They are a touch rusty but work well. There is a water cooler at the stretching/weights area. No shower but bus stop/MRT is not far away, so hopefully you will get home soon from there 🛀🧼 I think they were going for a kind of eco-core aesthetic with wood veneers and artificial plants. Cute! 🪵🌳 A refreshing change from the steely vibes you might get elsewhere. Also adorable plush toys! (See photos) I visited on a Tuesday evening and it was not too busy (except for the treadmills). Enjoy! Wishing you good health and lots of fun throughout your fitness journey.:)
View on GoogleThe gym has improved since the pandemic with the addition of another weight room down the hall on top of the original room. This is a small gym, and meant to be a satellite addition to the much bigger Toa Payoh sports gym but unfortunately all the sports facilities in TP is now closed until 2024. Service has improved -- chat up with the friendly staff, Khamis, and he will be nice to you. Parking is very convenient and it adjoins the CC. Downsides: (1) U can only access the gym frm the carpark during early part of the morning as the lift is off. (2) some patrons sit at the equipment or mat to look at their phones and hog up the space. (3) towel size limit applies. Cannot be too small. (4) it's small gym, so adjust your expectation accordingly. Equivalent to a hotel or condo sized gym.
