Katong ActiveSG Gym

I have been using this gym for the past 3 years. Unfortunately, I understand that recently they have swapped the equipment with another gym and ended up having an even older equipment. It’s in a horrible state and time for me to say goodbye to this gym.

This is the perfect example of “Don’t fix what’s not broken.” First time I see “maintenance and upgrading works” result in an actual downgrade. Whoever approved this nonsense "upgrading" seriously needs to go back to English classes. The machines look new, but you can clearly see rust and faded numbers — as though some other gym just dumped their crap here so they could get new equipment. Even the digital counters and timer are gone, which was really helpful to track my rest time in between sets. Worst of all is the treadmill. It feels like running on hardwood, my feet hurt. I can even hear the sound of other people running through my noise-cancelling earphones, all the way from the other end of the gym. That’s how loud and flat the surface is. If you have read till here, thank you for listening to my rant. I’ve really grown attached to this place — I started my gym journey right here almost 3 years ago as a scrawny little skeleton, coming twice a week, watching my body gradually transform. Seeing the usual people around always gave me a sense of community. Alas, this is the end of a chapter. Thank you, Katong ActiveSG Gym, for the precious memories (and the cheap $30 per month), but once my monthly pass ends in 2 weeks, it’s time to say goodbye. Good times don't last forever. Anytime Fitness, here I come.

Bro why they change all the machines it’s so bad the previous one was perfect and needed no refinement they could’ve use the money to build second floor instead we get this bullshit I changing locations sia Is it a coincidence that the usual people that I see everyday for almost a year going at the same time as me suddenly disappear? HELL NO

Our ActiveSg gyms are like commercial gyms of the US, while commercial gyms are most like garage gyms. People are more well behaved than our commercial gym with more attentive staffs walking around. People are mostly having more gym etiquettes, like emphasizing cleanliness, respect for others on sharing of equipment, especially basic courtesy of re-rack the weights after used!! What reason to be ill-mannered when membership fees are so much cheaper??!! Don't know about other branches, but at least the timing I'd frequent Katong ActiveSg twice were indeed pleasant, no doubt theres some insufficient of equipment like handle attachments. There are surprise old-school equipments which can be found at individual branches for specific workout if U are willing to travel around. (Bring a staff of a commercial gym, actually need to stop member after he stepped out of the gym without re-racking the weights. How habitually self-entitlement anyone can be without notice!!)

Surprised there’s not many reviews of the gym. Was glad I popped by to see for myself. Went on a weekday morning, gym was pretty occupied. Had to queue to use the machines, but apart from that all good. Managed to squeeze in different muscle groups workout between sets. Gym is a 10-15mins walk from Mountbatten MRT, spacious and nice view overseeing the main road and pool… gym is bigger than the ActiveSG in Serangoon. Staff at entrance was fairly fierce (compared to the other ActiveSG I’ve been to…) it could be the time of day or the weather. Haha will be back again to verify 🤭🤪
