Reviews from afew years ago has been irrelevant as many things has changed since. I'm going to give a very honest review about this gym.
I have been an AF member for 8 years, 2 of those years were in clementi gantra as I've set it as my home club. I've been bouncing from branch to branch due to work, so I really know my stuff.
CONS
1. Hygiene
The gym hired a cleaner to wipe down EQ for infection control protocols due to covid, but EQs like the straps and belts are shared among members. No one has wash them for a very long time, they stink of sweats.
2. Pests
You see cockroaches around, usually at night. So do not leave your stuffs on the floor, especially bottles. Cobwebs on corners as well.
3. Equipment
The barbells seems like an OEM product. Compared to gyms like BTimah & BV that uses authentic renowned bars like eleiko (if you are a powerlifter, you know why this is so important), the EQ this gym has are really meh-ish. It is not great for optimal performance.
The yoga mats are old, dirtied and damaged. Yes, they wipe down with Dettol, but they should change their mat once in awhile, so the gym looks presentable and clean.
Also, they lack alot of other essential machines, such as the calf-raises. And if you look at the barbell mats, you will find alot of holes in them, if you're using them to level yourself on certain exercises while stepping on them, be careful as you might lose balance and fall, especially when carrying a 200kg weight. This gym does NOT prioritize your safety. They are here to milk you.
4. Obnoxious regulars
Many who lived nearby has become regulars in this gym, it even has its own LGBT community here. No hate, but there are some people who talk very loudly, and are very open about their sexual experiences (it isn't even that hard to hear creeps talk about getting it on with married people, man to man) So yeah, still scarred about that, I will spare you the disgusting details.
5. Classes
This could be good or bad, depending on the individual, but they usually have classes throughout the week. What is good is, for people who are new to the gym, they can utilize these classes to get into fitness. The bad is, all these classes are almost identical, different movements and exercises, yes, but essentially, pretty much still the same thing. E.g monday is power, Tuesday is strength, Wednesday is endurance, different movements, but almost all the same. If you train for strength, you're gonna attain power and strength, increase rep ranges on the same weight, and you get endurance. its common sense. SOME of the trainers know their stuffs, but most really are just in their own world. If you talk to the trainers about this, legit, they question the gym's classes as well, they have no idea what the management is doing.
6. Management
Try not to get too friendly with the management. They are a cesspool of dung. Some of the respectful trainers such as yusof and sean really know their stuffs. But the others, very questionable. My gf changed her home club to this branch and one of the trainer literally tried to break us up. We had to bring this up to the manager for intervention, and even then, not much was done for us, this is borderline harassment, as they keep approaching us to say very inappropriate things such as "we are the staff here and that's why we care for you and you deserve much better, so just break up". You can already tell this is a breach of professionalism, however, the staff(s) (yes, not just one, but TWO) has been reprimanded.
The brand ambassador, you would think a brand ambassador for AF would be fit and athletic, as it is the face of the gym. But the person really spend much of it's time gossiping instead of working out. Go look for yourself, I honestly have no idea how they market their services.
Tried to double charge me for locker rentals too, had to show proof of transaction even though I'm a regular and known to pay fees on time.
The good:
yusof & sean, they're experience and respectful.
Hope this review reaches you, Dennis. your gym CMI.
